Proclamares saltem suppetiatum, si resistere vir tantus mulieri nequibas. Sub oculis tuis homo iugulatur, et siles? Cur autem te simile latrocinium non peremit? Cur saeva crudelitas vel propter indicium sceleris arbitro pepercit?

comment What methods are available for looking up a character?
the OP asked for resources in situations where only the character can be used to look something up.

comment What's the difference between 咁 (gam3) and 噉 (gam2)?
+1 for asking about cantonese. i have way more cantonese questions at the moment than mandarin ones, and i stupidly did not think to ask them on this site

comment Specifics of the idiom “四海一家”
+1 for the classical reference. i have to admit that i've never liked the analects as much as the dao de jing, the sutras, the hanfeizi, the mengzi, or pretty much anything else in classical Chinese literature. but there's something musical about it that i like in the original language.

comment What is the meaning and proper usage of 凭什么?
-1 @Jon I think the nuance here suggested by ziyuang is missing from your answer... add it maybe?

comment Why 又 is used there instead of 再?
have you seen how the answers disagree? did you simply choose the one with the most upvotes?

comment Why 又 is used there instead of 再?
-1 this answer seems to disagree with the consensus by the native speakers on here.

comment Why 又 is used there instead of 再?
+1 if i understand you right, the nuance here is that 又 is adding emphasis, right?

comment Why 又 is used there instead of 再?
+1 that's the way it feels to me. i am not a native speaker though. but in classical it seems to have this meaning, as in 玄之又玄

comment Character and meaning for the 四川话 sentence-ending particle 'ga'?
i'm guessing that the character used on television would also be the one people are using on QQ?

comment Why is 有 (yǒu) the only verb that requires 没 while other verbs can use 不?
+1 for mentioning the song dynasty text.

comment Is 在瞬间 something like 'at some point'?
+1 and accept. all of the answers were good, but i only learned later (while conversing with someone who, while not a native speaker like you, has 20 years of experience speaking chinese) and they suggested doing the same thing: "在"+"瞬“+"间". the logic being that "在"+"X“+"间" influences the way the meaning works.

comment What's the role of 曾经 in this sentence?
+1... speaking as someone who knows quite a bit about english grammar, that's a hard question you pose there. why not ask on the english site?

comment Is 在瞬间 something like 'at some point'?
that's a perfect answer without context, actually. thanks for the broad range of usage examples.

comment What is the status of 什么来的 and 什么来着 in standard and colloquial Mandarin Chinese?
不要太 = very... I love Chinese dialects.

comment Why does the construction of 要是…的话 mean “if”?
dunno if this is a totally scholarly gloss on it, but to me it makes perfect sense in quasi-classical, (as do many constructions i find.) 'wanting that'...'condition'... for me it's perfectly easy to see the logic behind it. and don't think that chinese education these days does not include hefty doses of tang poetry.
