comment What's the difference between 星期X and 周X?
周日 can mean either Sunday or weekday (in China iirc), depending on the region where it is used. Beginners should stick to 星期天 for more precision. 周天 means a day (any day)

comment Is there a lot of value in learning to write Chinese characters?
The gist is that people (starting from their time as children) write them to either increase muscle memory or character memory. It is still good for a short note or a greeting card.

comment Do acronyms borrowed from English use neutral tone (aka tone 0 or tone 5) for all syllables?
Exactly, because these acronyms should not normally be used in Chinese writing, albeit against popular convention and resulting in a question like this, the only standard way is to read them as one would normally read them in English. Chinese characters (acronyms or not) do not normally appear in English sentences either, without some kind of guide to their actual pronunciation in Chinese.

comment Where can I find recordings of people reading things now that mp3.baidu.com is dead?
verycd is the name of the site/client which like most sites of its nature (nfo site if you may), do not or do not need to actively enforce copyright since it does not host or serve the content itself. The p2p service network is actually edonkey or ed2k

comment What does 厉害 mean, and in what context does it mean what?
That is true but I have this feeling that it is turning into an often-abused word (just like great and like in English) used by people are unable or too lazy to think of a more appropriate word.

comment Do acronyms borrowed from English use neutral tone (aka tone 0 or tone 5) for all syllables?
If you view the acronyms as just a group of English letters (and not in the greater context of being part of a Chinese sentence), then there is definitely a standard way to read them. Whether people are capable of doing that (pronounce English letters) is a separate matter. That said, some academics have spoken out against the increased usage of acronyms instead of properly localized terms.

comment Using 一样 instead of 同一 for “the same school”
Strictly speaking, that actually means they are going to the same type of school (i.e. nursery, college)

comment Why is stroke order important when writing Chinese characters?
very interesting, I tend to write it as /,|,、. Personally I feel the standard should only be regarded as a guideline and not something to be strictly adhered to. Calligraphy experts may feel otherwise
