comment Chinese equivalent of: 'ew'?
My feeling is mainlanders are generally more likely to describe it with e.g. 好恶心 than to just make a noise.

comment What is the purpose of the 中 in 在新标签页中打开?
I get the impression 中 is generally used for more abstract things, so 公司中 seems weird to me. 中 is really common for describing being temporally in something, i.e. in a process or during an ongoing action.

comment Neutral Terms for “White People”
In practice 老外 and 外国人 tend to refer to white people much more than they do people of other ethnicities. Personally I don't particularly like being called a 外国人, even less so 老外.

英国 isn't short for 英格兰. They're different things. 英国 is the United Kingdom, 英格兰 is England, which is a constituent country of the United Kingdom.

comment Why is 未有 used here?
In Classical Chinese you will often see 未 used on its own to express 没有 or 还没有.

comment Why is George 乔治 in Chinese?
Sounds pretty similar to me. Also Chinese transliterations often sound quite different to their counterparts in the original language.

Yep, got these problems in any language! "inflammable" is always a good one in English.

@Rodriquez - aware of that but what I'm interested in is how native speakers generally interpret this.

I've accepted this because it corroborates what I've heard from other native speakers. It seems that people either don't think about it and say "they're the same", or they consider it more and say "well if we're being strict then they are different".

comment What's the title for addressing an unknown young person the same age as you?
@suud No it's not weird at all. It's like calling out "Hey! Excuse me!" in English. You're trying to get their attention, and 你好 can definitely be used for that.
