Having learned Cantonese over two years as an LDS missionary in Hong Kong, I'm always looking to learn more and practice what I know. I'm also very very slowly trying to come up to speed on Mandarin and improve my reading and writing skills. Mostly I just love Chinese people, culture, and language.

Written Cantonese input? +1 for using other IMEs to enter Cantonese feeling unnatural. I'd even prefer to write Traditional Chinese with a Cantonese IME if I could, just because that's where I'm more comfortable. |

Is there an equivalent for the Cantonese phrase “Ng Goi” Just as a side note, it's generally pronounced "mh goi" rather than "ng goi". |

How to describe differences between Cantonese and Mandarin? @arcyqwerty but can they understand when you speak Cantonese? That's one bonus of learning Cantonese first - I understand it's much more difficult to go the other direction. |

How to describe differences between Cantonese and Mandarin? Good point on summing it up as "two different languages that use the same writing system", and yes you're correct that 我们 is said as 我地 in Cantonese. I've actually got a fairly good grasp on where the differences are in what's said in Cantonese and what's used in written Chinese or spoken in Mandarin. |

How to describe differences between Cantonese and Mandarin? @pyko Indeed - hence my concern with using the "Portuguese vs. Spanish" analogy that I've tried before as well. I've almost come to the conclusion that there is no real concise way to describe it. |

How to describe differences between Cantonese and Mandarin? Thanks for the reminder of the "chicken talking to the duck" - I'm familiar with that one but hadn't heard it in a long time. |

How to describe differences between Cantonese and Mandarin? An excellent summary of the differences in the two. How would you put all that into a "headline"? |

Where to practice speaking Chinese? I already speak Cantonese and am "learning" to speak Mandarin when I'm able to spend time on it. |

The question about “很好” Pardon my ignorance, but I was wrong about the specific characters used in this phrase. My answer has been changed from using 飛上 to 非常, the same as @xiaohouzi79. |

The question about “很好” Actually, 飛上好 is a phrase that's common to both Mandarin and Cantonese, but I'll remove the Cantonese phrase, thanks. |
