comment Different Ways to Say “Hometown”
The reason I mentioned "低头思故乡" is that 故乡 can only mean a place where we used to live but not where we live.

comment Meaning of 白 in words for “nonsense”?
@Stan Thanks for the wikipedia page for 本字, which is very interesting. I have a feeling that 白呼/夸白 might not originate from 白丁 since the three 白 are used as adverb, noun, and adjective respectively.

comment Meaning of 白 in words for “nonsense”?
@Stan As in "往来有白丁", "白丁" is very formal Chinese, which can for sure be found in dictionaries. However, I don't think 夸白 as a phrase can be found in any formal Chinese text.

I don't seem to agree with you. First, you mentioned 故乡, what about "低头思故乡"? Then you pointed out that 祖籍 and 籍贯 were the same thing. Maybe you come from a different background (not the mainland)?

@QuestionOverflow Come on, can't we be a little more poetic or at least idiomatic :)

comment What are the connotations of the word 拳拳?
I do not agree with the point names of repeating characters are for girls. How about famous names like 薄瓜瓜 and 李禾禾? By the way, I believe 拳拳 is a very good name for guys.

comment Why can't 了 be used to complement 到?
@xiaohouzi79 You should say 他什么时候到的悉尼 instead. In other words, replace 了 with 的.

comment Why can't 了 be used to complement 到?
@xiaohouzi79 I guess it has to do with 刚,which in this case means just (arrived). On the other hand, 了 indicates have arrived (complete tense). So I believe you are right, 刚 makes it unnatural. By the way, 他什么时候到了? sounds unnatural to my ears.

Can you provide some context, e.g., the conversation setting?

comment Using 一样 instead of 同一 for “the same school”
@xiaohouzi79 Good point, however, I believe the meaning of this sentence is ambiguous. We may prefer to use 同一 to clear the potential ambiguity.

comment What is the difference between 总是 and 一直?
@jaffa I think both are being used in equally long-term expressions.
