Chinese student/enthusiast since 2005. I welcome ALL comments and corrections on my Chinese -- I'm always looking for new ways to learn!

What is the most complex simplifed character? Just to clear up any confusion: 攀 was never simplified, and hence it is still used in Mainland China. Your question is slightly ambiguous since it might seem like you're asking only about characters which underwent the simplification process. (攀 is a good choice, by the way.) |

How do I translate a definition for inheritance (computer science)? As a native English speaker, I wouldn't say that the English is "written very poorly." It's dense but clear. |

Is there a tone sandhi for 2nd-tone-2nd-tone names? @Heitor Chang: I'm a big fan of GR too. (In fact, it was the first romanization system I learned. I didn't learn pinyin until the end of my first year in Chinese study.) The only English editions of A Grammar of Spoken Chinese are written with GR romanization throughout -- one reason, perhaps, why it hasn't yet been reprinted. |

What is the difference between 秀才, 进士, 举人, and 甲第? @coolcfan either way. The convention on other language SEs is to answer in the language of the original question. I'd say the assumption should be that questions asked in both languages can be answered in either. |

What is the difference between 秀才, 进士, 举人, and 甲第? (Posting the question in Chinese is an experiment to attract Chinese visitors who'd prefer to read and respond to questions in their native language. We'll see how it goes.) |
