comment How can I translate “精神需要”?
精神 is often applied to things which we don't consider "spiritual" in English. Often 精神 means "spiritual" in opposition to materialistic, practical, etc. So interpersonal relationships are a "spiritual need" because they're not economic/material/etc.

comment Pronunciation of 那个
@Cocowalla: but when it's pronounced nàr, it's written 那儿, no? I can't remember a time when I heard someone read the characters 那里 as nàr.

comment What is the most complex simplifed character?
Just to clear up any confusion: 攀 was never simplified, and hence it is still used in Mainland China. Your question is slightly ambiguous since it might seem like you're asking only about characters which underwent the simplification process. (攀 is a good choice, by the way.)

comment How do I translate a definition for inheritance (computer science)?
As a native English speaker, I wouldn't say that the English is "written very poorly." It's dense but clear.

comment Is there a tone sandhi for 2nd-tone-2nd-tone names?
@Heitor Chang: I'm a big fan of GR too. (In fact, it was the first romanization system I learned. I didn't learn pinyin until the end of my first year in Chinese study.) The only English editions of A Grammar of Spoken Chinese are written with GR romanization throughout -- one reason, perhaps, why it hasn't yet been reprinted.
