Have been learning Chinese for about 10 years now. Although I get to practice every day with my wife and family, I am still only average.

Where I live is about 80% Chinese speakers so I have plenty of people to practice with and it's like living in China without actually being there.

comment How many characters do Chinese pupils know at different ages?
I think this question is on topic because our site says it is about the Chinese language, but I am tempted to close it because it appears to be open ended. Why exactly do you need this information?

This doesn't actually answer the question, the asker already indicated that there were common pairs, they want to know why and what is the significance? Please feel free to edit your question and flag for a moderator to undelete once the necessary information has been provided.

comment How to translate “给力” in English?
Your question doesn't explain clearly why you don't understand this phrase. There are already many sites which provide a thorough explanation of this phrase. We only accept translation requests on this site if you have a particular problem.

@hippietrail - We decided a while back to assist with new learners we would ensure that English is used in all questions and answers. If you think we should revisit this feel free to create a new discussion on the meta site.

Can I trouble you to update your question and specify why you need this. I want to avoid answers where people post random stuff, I would prefer people provide answers to your actual problem. Once you updated can you flag it for moderator attention.

comment What's the title for addressing an unknown young person the same age as you?
@Stan - I would probably go with 小姐 or 大哥 if they were around my age. Even if a few years younger. What do you think?

The thing is, in most cases this would be resolved by context, but when you are on your first few lessons and the English is slightly ambiguous it is a reasonable question to ask what context the statement can be used. I assume the person who downvoted couldn't understand why you would ask an apparently simple question.

Just on a point of English, we normally don't use purse for a male, purse is considered feminine. We typically use wallet. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/wallet
