comment Ordering food from a menu in a restaurant
As a cultural aside, does anyone else find it odd how waiters/waitresses on the mainland will stand beside you, waiting with pen poised on notepad while you peruse the menu? Some menus can be quite large, and I always feel guilty if I take too long!

A bit off-topic, but do you know the meaning of (dào) in these sentences?

When 就 is used to give emphasis, is it only used with regard to time, or can it be used in other ways?

So are you saying it's used to say that something will be the case in the future? Like present would be "am able to (now)" and future would be 就可 "will be able to"?

comment What is a good technique for remembering tones?
Maybe just me, but I find it much easier to rean with tone marks than with capital letters.

comment How to emphasize a word in writing?
Good question, but I have some of my own :) "my wife emphasizing that she is not your wife" - how can she be your wife and not be your wife? Also, is 我太太 ever correct, or wouldn't you always refer to your wife as 我的太太?

comment Pronunciation of 那个
For instance, 那里 is always pronounced nàlǐ and never *nèilǐ. - or, just to confuse things further, it's often pronounced nà'r in Beijing ;)
