@Huang what about 这儿 (zhèr) instead of 这里 (zhèlǐ)? Is that classified as erhua, or do the same rules apply? I once said it to a taxi driver in Xian, and he laughed and said something like 'zhèr! We're not in Beijing!'

"This is normally out of respect to someone who maybe treats you as a younger brother or sister" so you wouldn't use 大姐 or 大哥 for people you don't know well?
