comment Effective and polite way to end a phone conversation
hmmm, do you really need to say something polite to end phone calls with friends? How would you end phone calls in a polite way in English?

comment How to translate/understand “还不” in “还不是因为爱”
@Alenanno I noticed you changed my answer too. Mostly just re-formatting. Is there a standard way to present translations when English & Chinese sentences side by side? Or is it just personal preference?

This is wrong comparison. 还真不 != 还不.

comment How do I decide whether to use 還是/还是 or 或者
You see the pattern here? When used reversely, you need to say two sentences here, instead of one sentence.

+1 for mentioning 关系(guān xì), the most important thing you need to have in China.

comment How do I decide whether to use 可以, 会 or 能?
When I said mostly I was thinking maybe there were some cases that I didn't think of. They are interchangeable in all the cases that I can think of. :) I've updated the answer to include other meanings for 可以 and 能.

comment Various ways to say “nice to meet you”
Yeah, 很高兴见到您 is used when you know or heard of someone for a long time, but it's the first time you actually see the person. For example, if you are meeting someone you know from the internet. It's a bit weird to say 很高兴见到您 to someone you know well or see everyday.

comment What is a good technique for remembering tones?
不 should be 2nd tone. Edit: sorry didn't see you said "The tones obviously indicate the tones of the single characters, it doesn't take into account the tone changes in spoken Mandarin."

comment Chinese for “vote-up”, “vote-down” and “vote to close”
@Huang Usually vote-up and vote-down should be a pair. What would you use for vote-up if you use 叉 for vote-down? Maybe 勾? :)
