Chinese version of the idiom “The word on the street” +1 for the interesting examples! You could put those in your "answer" to make it more complete! |

What is the status of 什么来的 and 什么来着 in standard and colloquial Mandarin Chinese? I never thought about your second example! This is great! "昨天我说什么来着" is like "I told you". |

How is 儿化 represented in other romanization systems like Wade-Giles, Zhuyin Fuhao, etc.? @Alenanno I think stevendaniels is correct. "影" is ying3, and for 儿化音, you simply add an "r". |

Chinese equivalent of “no worries” First situation: 没事儿; second situation: 没问题 (no problem). In Jon's example, it would be 没事儿 as well. |

What is the equivalent of “make sense” in Chinese? 有道理 = "make sense" is a perfect translation (and it happens to be literal!). But when it comes to "doesn't make sense"- for example, does “我的一个北京朋友居然在大学上中文入门!【这根本没道理!】” sound right to you? Also, are you from northern China? I'm a native speaker from the south and "说不通" isn't archaic or rare here at all. |

What does […] 给盯背过去 mean? "背过去" means to turn around. A more natural version of your sentence could be "你老是盯着他, 弄得人家都背过去不敢看你了". |

How to use 指 when giving a definition? @trideceth12 You are right. "是指" is used together, meaning "refers to". "是" is an essential part. (native speaker here) |

How to translate “be mature” into Mandarin? 主动 is more like "proactive" and has a positive connotation. |
