What is the correct pronunciation of 垃圾? I changed the part of your quote that's in traditional script into simplified; it looked really strange having both scripts in the same paragraph. The phonetics for the Shanghainese phrase doesn't sound quite right. Maybe it's an obsolete/dated pronunciation. |

How would you translate the word '面子'? @Derek朕會功夫 This is an interesting term. It doesn't sound forced at all to me, however, it seems to be used more when associated with the Chinese as it is, after all, culturally specific. Normally, one would simply say, to honour or to pay respect to (someone's sensitivity or sensibilities), but these lack the cultural nuance that comes with to 'give face'. |

Is there a literal meaning of 对不起? @Derek朕會功夫 You can assume that Mandarin is what Matthew was looking for, as you have pointed out yourself the difference in how it's expressed in Cantonese. Just a side note, my answer also applies to Wu. Thanks for the extra info however. |

Translation of Chinese word is not an English word? You might also post this on one of the English se sites. On the topic, however, I have only seen obdurateness. In order for obdurability to exist, obdurate will need a verb usage. I am not aware of any. |
