Is this an exception in the use of 的? It depends on the tongue and context. If you say 他妈的洋装 and people talked to feel offensive, then your change to say 他妈妈的洋装 won't help you out of the embarrassment. |

Is this an exception in the use of 的? I think 我的国家 is more emotional and usually used in written chinese or you make a speech. |

Tense and use of 了 @Cocowalla 了 in 你吃了吗 and 吃了 have the same mean that the eat action has completed. However, 吃饭了, like kazer took for instance in his answer, means let's eat. |

Tense and use of 了 @Cocowalla Chi Fan Le DO NOT means finished eating. Instead that, like a mom want to call for her children to eat: "孩子们,吃饭了"(boys, time for meal) |

Is the usage of European punctuation acceptable in Chinese writing? Chinese's single quotes are different with european's. 我妈妈说:"毛主席教导我们'为人民服务'" and 我妈妈说:“毛主席教导我们‘为人民服务’” |

Is there an authoritative reference for the stroke order of simplifed characters? I check MoE's publish, there is no newer version. For most ( actually only few argument like you mentioned ) condition, this book is not OLD. But I suggest you read traditional chinese's as a reference. In the part you are interest, SC & TC are the same. |

How to differentiate between “On Top” and “Above” it still has some ambiguity. Think 人在床上面 and 挂在床上方. |
