Hi, I am a real estate consultant and property agent working at FussFreeHome. I graduated with a degree in engineering but made a career switch to the more lucrative real estate industry. Nevertheless, I am still passionate about learning new things from computers to the universe. I will continue to ask questions and help others by answering some as a way to contribute back to the community.

comment Questions on “的话”
The answer by Lars Andren more or less explains what 的话 means in English. "If, say for example, blah blah blah..."

comment What's the difference between 保育院 and 孤儿院?
Looks like euphemism to me. The difference is just like 养老院 is to 老人院.

comment Correct use of 惹人心烦
惹人心烦 is not an idiom (chengyu). A better phrase would be 我不想整天唠叨[láo dāo] to imply that you don't want to be a constant pain in the neck for someone by nagging whole day.

comment Proper translations on manager titles on business cards
Without context, it is hard to tell what president would be translated to. Banks tend to give out such inflated corporate titles freely to make their customers feel important. Traditionally, a president is equivalent to the position of a CEO.

comment non-standard tone pronunciation
I think some of the pronunciations like 複雜 and 回來 are wrong. It could be due to the influence of the speaker's own dialect. Take note of tone sandhi also.

comment How can I translate 不客气 here?
@Stan, the joke has nothing to do with how you would translate a phrase. In fact, 不客气 can all be replaced with 过奖了 or 谢谢 without affecting the crosstalk at all.

comment How can I translate 不客气 here?
It is something like saying "you are welcome" in English.

This is wrong. "I'm flattered" is 过奖了.
