Hi, I am a real estate consultant and property agent working at FussFreeHome. I graduated with a degree in engineering but made a career switch to the more lucrative real estate industry. Nevertheless, I am still passionate about learning new things from computers to the universe. I will continue to ask questions and help others by answering some as a way to contribute back to the community.

comment What is the difference between 由于 and 因为?
@user1551, thanks for your input. I agree that 所以 is just an option but not a must. That's why I did not say that chris97ong's second example is wrong. Also, I use can instead of must in my answer to describe a construct where 因为 can be used and I am certainly not prescribing it. In fact, I agree with Stan that it is a matter of opinion in such cases.

comment What is the difference between 由于 and 因为?
@user1551, I am glad you take the time to write down the reason for downvote. I stand corrected for (1) and (2). But I disagree with (3), 所以 serves as a conjunction between two parts of a sentence, without which, the sentence would appear disjointed.

Your profile says that you are in the midst of creating a Chinese teaching program. I am curious how are you able to do it without being able to type in Chinese :P

comment Making sense of 去华山怎么走比较好?
I think it appears as a brief way to say '...the best ... according to...'. No, it doesn't. 比较好 means better, not best. And the part on modesty regarding the choice of word used is certainly misplaced.

comment Correct way to say “each person”?
每个人的 租是650元 would be the exact equivalent of your English sentence.

comment Correct way to say “each person”?
Why don't you specify "per month" in your English sentence?

comment Porcelain Mark Translation?
+1 for the forgery caveat. I guess authentic ones wouldn't need to bear such a claim.

comment Is 其他人 any different from 别的人?
Although both mean other people, 别的人 can be used to point out a specific group or person, such as a special someone in a love affair. 其他人 can only mean other people in general.

comment DATE/PERIOD expression 2010年10-12 means year 2010 from October to December, or year 2010 October 12th?
It can mean anything since it isn't written in a proper format that people would understand. Unless more context is provided, I am voting to close this as primarily opinion based.

comment Usage of 一定 vs 当然
The whole sentence sounds unnatural. A better way to phrase it would be "我学汉语学了10年,水平 _ _ 高".

comment Alternative name for moon cakes?
I think it could be derived from Hokkien too as 饼 means piah in Hokkien. Example popiah or 薄饼.

comment Meaning of 之下 in this sentence
This looks more like a partial quote of a sentence instead of a poor sentence structure.

comment “一别五六年” 是什么意思??
No, my answer in Meta is not the site's policy. The moderator is trying to set the direction by asking for input from the community. That's where this confusion and inconsistency comes about.

Anything wrong with making Chinese female friends?

comment Names of extended family members
Voting to close as it is not clear what you are asking. If you understand Hokkien, then translating it to Mandarin should be a piece of cake. Example "tua" is 大, "bay" means last, etc.

comment Why do people often say 最多 in Cantonese when they mean “at the very least”?
@NS.X., example usage:"真是对不起,我又迟到了。别生气...最多明天请你吃晚餐好不好?"
