comment What is written in this satellite photograph?
I just went there 2 months ago. The slogan reminds me of the fanatical time.

comment Do you use 个 when describing distances/weights?
@ns.x Yes, it's constructed by me on purpose. That's why I say "weird".

comment What is the difference between 狗 and 犬?
@congusbongus Thanks for pointing out that. However,as far as I know, 犬子 of this meaning is used in 虎父无犬子 only, where it's an analogy. Generally, it's used as a self-depreciatory word referring to one's own son.

comment Translations: 'Crack' as in 'Crack Knuckles'
Hi, here I am. The corresponding character is 撇 pie 3rd tone, which actually means to bend. In Sichuan dialect, we say 撇手指 or 撇指姆儿 to express cracking fingers. Of course you may make sounds when cracking other joints or parts of the body, but I don't think there's one single word like crack that works for all cases.

comment Purpose of duplicating measure words?
Here it's the first case, meaing "each". In your case, it means "Each of the gardens is like a beautiful landscape painting". Note that in the previous sentence, the subject is "那些园林", which means "these gardens".

comment What's the significance of 家 in 国家?
@congusbongus A Chinese Character, whether in classic Chinese or modern Chinese, generally has serveral meanings. The word "国家", reminds me of a sentence cited from Lunyu (the Analects),which I and many other Chinese learned from the textbook when we were students,“丘也闻有国有家者". Here 国 and 家 respectively refer to the vassal state and the fief.

comment Chinese characters for “bu da jie” meaning unrelated
Yes, it should be 不搭界. I remember in Suzhou dialect, this word sounds like "fu da ga".

comment Why is stroke order important when writing Chinese characters?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I think the order is important at least for the stroke input method. Take 情 for exmaple, it consists of 11 strokes. If the software is designed without the restriction on the order of strokes, it has to deal with 11!=39916800 possibilities. In that case, the workload is huge and the software may display many many possible characters for you to choose. For touch screens, the order might be less important when recoginizing the character since positions of the strokes are extra info/restrictions for the it to recognize characters.
