What is the difference between 人民 and 民族？ I think there is no word of "中华人民", you may want to say "中国人民" (the Chinese People). The formal official name of China is "the People's Republic of China", in Chinese "中华人民共和国", but that's another story, because here 中华 and 人民 are two words. |

Did phonological systems (namely bopomofo) standardize Chinese phonemes? I don't think we could/should discuss it here because I believe most of the members here are not linguists or on a research level. You are talking about the evolution of the sounds in Chinese. Average people don't know this,even you use 'imagine' in your question. |

I just visited the tatoeba page from the link in the question(by the way, its name sounds like a Japanese word...), and I found PinYin for this sentence is not quite right. 得 should be "de"(neutral) here and 一 should be "yì" (sandhi here). |

Is there a comprehensive list of vocabulary differences between 台湾国语 and 大陆普通话？ I don't think average Chinese can show you a list because we don't learn the differences specially and a person from the mainland can communicate with a person from Taiwan(of course, even for these different words,it's easy for one to explain it to the another). I know some differences in terms in technical areas, but I can't show you a comprehensive list. |

What is the rule for forming chinese names diminutives? diminutive here means "爱称" or "昵称", so I understand the question as how to call people that you are familiar with. because of the different cultures between China and the west, I don't think we can find a precise or universal answer. As to the character "董",I only heard of this usage for some stars, but I think that's because they have their own studios and thus can be considered as 董.in Taiwan, can you use this for anyone that you are familiar with? |

What should a beginner be looking for when selecting a movie in Chinese? +1. I agree that characters don't quite reflect words,but characters are really the foundation. As a native speaker, I couldn't recommend any movie or series because I can't consider how helpful the movie or series would be, from a foreigner's view. How about cartoons for kids? I think they are easy to understand. |
